Taxes have been around since ancient times. The first recorded tax was in Egypt around 3000-2800 BCE.  Some might argue, not cool! 

Types of Companies

• Tax Preparation Firms: Specialize in preparing and filing tax returns for individuals and businesses.  Examples: H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt.

• Accounting Firms: Offer a wide range of services including tax preparation, auditing, and consulting.  Examples: Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY).

• Government Agencies: Manage and enforce tax laws and regulations. Examples: Internal Revenue Service (IRS), State Tax Agencies.

• Tax Software Companies: Provide software solutions for tax preparation and filing. Examples: Intuit (TurboTax), H&R Block Software.

Further Education & Credentials Required

• Bachelor’s Degree: Typically in accounting, finance, or a related field.

• Certifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Chartered Tax Professional (CTP)

• Continuing Professional Education (CPE): Required to maintain certifications.

Entry Level Roles

• Tax Preparer
